Tigers Claim State Track and Field Titles

Tiger runners went the distance to bring home three individual championship titles at the 2A State Track Meet on May 6. John Walker McDonald ’22 claimed the 1600m and 3200m titles, becoming the back-to-back state champion in both events while rising star Jordyn Minor ’23 took the state title in the 100m and placed third in the 200m.

Other Tiger standouts at the state meet were Riley Ries ’23, who placed second in the 3200m and third in the 1600m, and Matthew Weiner ’22, who placed fifth in shot put. Reese Davis '23, Antonio Delgado '22, and Samay Mirpuri '24 also qualified for the state meet, joining McDonald on the 4x800 relay team.

Earlier in the season, McDonald claimed the 1600m and 3200m titles at both the district and regional track meets and was named Outstanding Male Track Athlete for the district. Minor placed first in the 100m and 200m at the regional meet and was a triple winner in the 100m, 200m, and long jump at the district meet.

Other regional meet participants included Riley Ries, who took first place in the 3200m and second in the 1600m,Matthew Weiner, who placed third in shot put, and the 4x800 relay team of Davis, Delgado, McDonald, and Mirpuri who placed third.
