Tiger Wrestler Grant Rabel '19 Wins City Mat Title

February 6, 2018

Tiger wrestler Grant Rabel ‘19 added another title to the Rabel family’s rich legacy on the mat when he emerged as the victor from the final match of the 195 pound weight class in the City Wrestling Championship held February 3-4 at Catholic High School. Grant defeated McKinley opponent Gavin Bonilla 2-1 to claim his first city championship title.

Coached by Randy Leindecker and former Dunham wrestler Kirk Wilson ’15, Rabel and his Dunham teammates Johnny Green ‘21 and Andrew McFeaters ‘19 now have their sights  set on the Division II State Wrestling Tournament, February 16-17, 2018 in Shreveport.

“Grant is a great athlete who is super competitive and has all the abilities to be a multiple state champion,” said Coach Leindecker.

Rabel, who earned his first State Championship in 2015 as an eighth grader and finished as State Runner-Up in the 182 pound class as a freshman, hopes to add another State Championship title to equal those of older brother Mason Rabel ‘17, a two-time state champion in the 220 weight class.
