The Dunham School is pleased to announce that Sheri Goings has been named Director of STEM for the 2017-2018 school year.
In this role, Sheri will oversee the advancement of the school’s STEM program as it continues the integration of state and national standards in math and science to equip our students with the academic and hands-on application skills needed for future success in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Sheri will work in collaboration with Director of Technology and Innovation Nikole Blanchard, Division Heads, Department Chairs, and faculty, to integrate STEM throughout the curriculum.
After a successful career in mechanical engineering, Sheri joined Dunham in 2007 as a math teacher. In 2013, she became Math Department Chair and was responsible for the launch of our Dual Enrollment program that provides opportunities for students to earn college credit through their Dunham coursework. In addition to her teaching duties, Sheri has served as a class sponsor and an Institute of Leadership student mentor, written and reviewed curriculum for Eureka Math and NYSE Curriculum Project, and presented frequently at professional development workshops and seminars.
Sheri has taught all levels of high school math at Dunham, including Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, and AP Calculus. For three out of the last six years that Sheri has taught AP Calculus, her students earned perfect scores of 5 on their AP exams, with the average six-year score being an outstanding 4.7 on a 5-point scale. In recognition for her remarkable ability to teach and inspire students, Sheri received the 2012 Liz Peters Master Teacher Award from Dunham and an Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching Award from LSU. She was also named Cox Teacher of the Week in 2014.
Sheri holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Natural Sciences from LSU. She is certified to teach mathematics through the state of Louisiana and also earned Master Teacher Certification through The Infinity Project at Southern Methodist University.
Sheri and her husband, Troy, are the proud parents of two Dunham graduates, Dylan ’15 and Justin ’16.
