With the stroke of a pen, Lady Tiger Kibi Huggins ’21 fulfilled a lifelong dream to play volleyball at the collegiate level. Surrounded by family, friends and classmates, Kibi signed her National Letter of Intent to play volleyball at Southeastern Louisiana University.
She is the first female Dunham athlete to receive a full Division 1 athletic scholarship.
“Kibi is an extremely physically talented athlete who has worked hard in the weight room and on the court to realize a goal and a dream she set for herself to play Division 1 volleyball. We are very proud of her and excited to see her excel at the next level,” said Dunham head volleyball coach Donna Pixley.
The rightside middle blocker, finished her senior season with 221 kills and a .358 hitting percentage. Kibi's outstanding on the court performances this season earned post-season honors including selection to All-District (Div IV, District 3), All Metro (Division III, IV, V) and All State volleyball teams.
As she worked toward her dream that in the COVID era sometimes seemed impossible, Kibi drew inspiration from a quote by the late Kobe Bryant— “"It's not the destination, it's the journey. And if you guys can understand that, then what you'll see happen is that you won't accomplish your dreams. Your dreams won't come true, something greater will."
Kibi plans to major in Sports Journalism/Communications at Southeastern.
