Dunham Mathletes Take First in Episcopal Tournament

Dunham Mathletes made every answer count, piling up the points to win the 1st Place Sweepstakes Award at  the recent Episcopal Math Tournament.  

Competing against students representing 24 different schools, the Dunham Mathletes earned the most cumulative points in Division 2. This is only the second competition for the young math team.  

“Our math team is fierce and competitive!  They are two for two with major awards at math competitions this year,” says Sheri Goings, Dunham Director of STEM and Math team sponsor. “ I am excited, not only, for their achievements at the tournament, but also for what they bring back to the classroom. Success in these competitions leads to confidence in the classroom, willingness to take risks, and creativity to solve authentic problems.”

Individual mathletes shined overall in their specific categories including Sylvia Chen ’19, 2nd place, Calculus; Charles Wang ’18, Honorable mention, Calculus; Julia Spell ’19, Honorable Mention, Precalculus; and Josh Harris ’22, Honorable Mention, Geometry.  

The Dunham Mathletes also performed well in the overall team competitions:

The Lower School Interschool Test team of  Joshua Harris (8), Kari Johnson (7), Anna Landaiche (7)  Simone Riley (7) Grace Robvais (7)  Mackenna Sink (7) and Devyani Vij (8) captured 3rd place overall.

The Middle School Test team of Kari Johnson (7), Anna Landaiche (7)  Simone Riley (7) Grace Robvais (7) and Mackenna Sink received Honorable Mention overall.

The Upper Interschool Test team of Sylvia Chen ’19, Jack Han ’18, Eric Ponder ’19, Stacy Qu ’18, Charles Wang ’18, and Jack Zhang ’19 also received Honorable Mention.
