Dunham Choir Captures Sweepstakes Trophy

The Dunham School Choir, under the direction of Brittany Spencer, walked away with the Sweepstakes Trophy in the recent Division IV Vocal Large Ensemble Assessment hosted by the Louisiana Music Educators Association (LMEA). The Sweepstakes Trophy is the highest award presented in the annual competition.

The Dunham Choir performed three songs for the the judges: “This is Celebration” by Jerry Estes; “Count the Stars” by Andy Beck; and “Keep Your Lamps” by Victor Johnson.  The group received kudos from the judges on their musical energy  and sound;  the way they followed direction; the balance and blend throughout the choir, and  confidence.

School choirs from all over the state spend The spring semester preparing three musical selections and refining their sight reading skills for the annual competition.

“This choir is so inclusive, making sure that every member is a part of the process. Their desire was to build up each other and support one another. Every singer was involved and willing to work hard,”  said Spencer. “This group is a whole lot of fun and makes the music-making process enjoyable for all.  They all have a desire to be their very best. They wanted this victory as much as I did, if not more!”
