Dudley Honored as “Best of the Best” in Boys Tennis at Advocate’s 2022 Star of Stars Event

May 25, 2022

Two-time Division IV State Boys Singles champion Michael Dudley ’22 was honored as the “best of the best” in  boys tennis by The Advocate at the 2022 Star of Stars event held May 23, 2022.

“Twice as nice is perhaps the best way to frame Dudley’s senior season for the Division IV Tigers. He finished with a 12-0 record and won a second consecutive Division IV singles title, which helped Dunham claim a runner-up team finish,” wrote The Advocate about the most decorated  tennis player in school history.

The Star of Stars program honors excellence in individual sports throughout the Baton Rouge metro area. The athletes in every sport are selected based on all-district, all-metro, and all-state honors; individual performances in regional and state competitions; and recommendations by area coaches.

Michael will continue his tennis career on the college level, competing for the University of Redlands next fall.

Michael is the first Dunham tennis player to be selected as a Star of Stars “best of boys athletes in every sport,” but not the first Tiger to receive Star of Stars honors.  Trafton Tiger football player Todd Kinchen ’87 was the Star of Stars Boys Athlete of the Year in 1987, followed by Dunham Tiger football player Cary Koch ’05 who won the same honor in 2005.

In 2019, Derek Stingley, Jr. ’19, the former Dunham and LSU football player recently drafted by the Houston Texans, received Star of Stars honors with his classmate Evan Light ’19, who won the Star of Stars Courage Award.

Last year, Tiger basketball player Carlos Stewart ’21 and Tiger golfer Ryan Dupuy ’21 were recognized as the best in their respective sports.
