SANDRA SERIO Named Liz Peters Master Teacher

The Dunham School is pleased to announce Sandra Serio as the recipient of the 2026 Liz Peters Master Teacher Award. This prestigious award is presented annually to a faculty member who exemplifies excellence in the classroom. After an initial announcement was made to faculty and staff earlier this year, Mrs. Serio was formally recognized at the annual Founders Dinner on April 24.
For Mrs. Serio, teaching begins with knowing the child in front of her—understanding that student’s strengths, recognizing the challenges, and believing wholeheartedly in what he or she can achieve. As a Lower School compensation teacher, Mrs. Serio demonstrates a deep understanding that no two students learn the same way. She takes the time to discover what each child needs to thrive, then thoughtfully creates individualized pathways for growth. Nurturing and compassionate while also firm and focused, she challenges students to reach beyond what they may have believed possible. Her expectations are high for a simple reason: She believes deeply in their potential.
That commitment extends to the families she serves. By building strong relationships with parents and working closely with colleagues, Mrs. Serio surrounds her students with a team invested in their success. Her unwavering faith and genuine love for children are evident in the care, patience, and purpose she brings to those relationships each day.
Her influence reaches well beyond her own classroom. Throughout her tenure at Dunham, Mrs. Serio has served as a lead teacher and generously mentored new teachers and support staff. A thoughtful and collaborative colleague, she readily partners with others to develop student-centered plans that help children succeed.
Whether encouraging a student through a difficult task, celebrating a hard-earned milestone, supporting a family, or guiding a fellow educator, Mrs. Serio leads through service. Her impact can be seen not only in what her students accomplish, but also in the confidence they gain along the way. Through her faith, compassion, and steadfast belief in every child’s God-given potential, Sandra Serio exemplifies the heart of a Master Teacher and the lasting difference one exceptional educator can make.
Please join us in congratulating Mrs. Serio for this well-deserved honor.
