Coach Donna Pixley and Lady Tiger Rhaia Davey ’23 Named Advocate Star of Stars

May 23, 2023

Congratulations to Coach Donna Pixley who was named The Advocate Star of Stars Girls Coach of the Year and senior standout Rhaia Davey who was named Star of Stars for volleyball at the annual awards ceremony on May 22.

The Lady Tigers ended their 2022 season by claiming the LHSAADivision III state championship title, a bittersweet victory for Coach Pixley, who announced her decision to retire earlier this spring. During her 21-year tenure as head volleyball coach, her teams have advanced to the state playoffs every season, winning state championships in 2005 and 2022 and taking the runner-up trophy in 2004. She has amassed more than 600 career victories and has been named District Coach of the Year six times, Metro Coach of the Year twice, and State Coach of the Year twice. She was also selected to coach the West All-Star team in 2006 and 2022.

Rhaia Davey, who intends to play at the collegiate level next year at Mississippi College, helped lead the Lady Tigers to an impressive 35-6 record with 453 kills, a .300 hitting percentage, and 322 digs. Rhaia was voted LVCA Division III MVP, All-Metro Small Schools MVP, and Division III title-game MVP. She has also been named to the All-District, All-Metro, All-State, and Academic All-State teams.

The Lady Tigers volleyball team was named a finalist for Star of Stars girls team of the year, and the Dunham football team was a finalist for boys team of the year.

Each year, The Advocate honors high school athletes from across the Baton Rouge metro area as Star of Stars for their excellence in individual sports. These athletes are selected as the best in their sports for the school year based on all-district, all-metro, and all-state honors, and performances at regional and state competitions, along with the recommendations of area coaches.

We can't wait to welcome you!
