Middle & Upper School Curriculum | The Dunham School, Baton Rouge, LA

middle and upper School curriculum

As a college preparatory school, all Middle and Upper School courses are taught with the appropriate level of rigor to prepare students for the collegiate environment. The Middle School program includes honors and advanced courses for gifted and high-achieving learners. Upper School students seeking a greater academic challenge may enroll in honors, dual enrollment, or Advanced Placement (AP)®, courses.

Honors

Honors courses typically address topics identical to those found in traditional college preparatory classes. The difference is found in the breadth and depth of topics discussed and the expectation in level of mastery. Success in an honors course demands a commitment to challenging work, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to embrace independent, critical thinking and challenge.

Dual Enrollment

The Dual Enrollment program allows Upper School students to earn college credits through courses taught at Dunham. The content of these courses is rigorous and follows a curriculum governed by the colleges and universities granting credit. Upon the successful completion of Dual Enrollment courses, students may be eligible to receive the equivalent credit hours at most accredited colleges and universities.

Advanced Placement®

We offer 25 Advanced Placement (AP)®, courses for students who are ready to tackle the challenge of college-level work. Each rigorous course culminates with a comprehensive exam in May. Strong performance on these exams may result in college credit for that subject.

The curriculum and Harkness Method ignited critical thinking and empowered me to articulate and share thoughts in large settings.
