Lady Tigers Win Volleyball State Championship

Lady Tigers Win Volleyball State Championship

November 14, 2022

This weekend the Lady Tigers volleyball team carried a special souvenir back to campus from the Cajundome in Lafayette, La.,—the LHSAA Division III State Championship trophy.

After advancing to the Division IV semifinals last year, the gutsy Lady Tigers made the decision to play up and compete in Division III for the 2022-2023 season. Following stellar play in the regular season, which included wins over Newman and Parkview, the team entered the playoffs as the #1 seed for the first time in school history.

The Lady Tigers defeated St. Michael’s in the quarterfinals and Haynes Academy in the semifinals before claiming 2022 the state title with a come-from-behind four-set win over E.D. White. Rhaia Davey ’23, who has signed to play volleyball next year for Mississippi College, was named the Division III Outstanding Player.

"It is fitting that Rhaia was named MVP, not just because she is a dominant hitter, good blocker, great defensive player or everyone’s hype man, but because she has battled back after two major knee injuries to become all of those things," said Coach Donna Pixley."She is the model of hard work, perseverance, and mental toughness, and the MVP was the cherry on top!"

Post-season update:
