The Dunham School is proud to announce that Amanda McIlwain has been named Upper School Director, effective June 1, 2017.

In this role, Amanda will oversee all Upper School academic and co-curricular programs and activities involving students, families, faculty, and staff. As part of our senior leadership team, she will continue to work closely with Head of School Steven A. Eagleton, the Academic Council, and the Advancement, Athletics, Fine Arts, and Marketing Departments to plan and implement strategic initiatives for the school.

Amanda joined Dunham in 2000 as a math and science teacher and has served the school faithfully and successfully in several key leadership roles, including Math Department Chair, Registrar, and Head Tennis Coach. As Director of the Institute of Leadership, she has developed a curriculum that trains and empowers Upper School students to become servant leaders, prepared and equipped to step forward as the hands and feet of Christ.  Since her appointment as Assistant Head of Upper School in 2015, Amanda has skillfully managed the day-to-day operations of the division and has continued to build strong relationships with students, faculty, and parents.

Amanda holds a Bachelor of Science from LSU and is completing a master’s degree in educational leadership. Additionally, she is a 2016 Apple Teacher and has participated in numerous professional development and leadership workshops at national education conferences, including Independent School Management (ISM), the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and the Anja S. Grier Math and Science Conference at Exeter Academy.

Amanda and her family attend Grace Life Fellowship Church, where she teaches Sunday School to 4th-6th grade boys and girls. She and her husband, Mitch '94, are the proud parents of two Dunham students, Claire ’24 and Anna ’26.
