Lady Tigers in 8-2A Title Mix

By William Weathers, The Advocate

It’s been 22 years since The Dunham School girls won a district basketball title. A year after a run to the Division III quarterfinals, the Tigers (19-6, 1-0) have positioned themselves for a shot at the District 8-2A title heading into Friday’s 6 p.m. game at Port Allen (10-10, 1-1).

Dunham has won seven of its past eight games and began 8-2A play with a 37-29 victory over rival Episcopal. The Tigers host The Church Academy (16-4, 3-0) next Tuesday.

“We’ve got to go one game at a time,” said Dunham coach Chad Myers, who recently won his 200th game. “We have to play these next two games with a sense of urgency to help us set up to host playoff games down the road. They came back hungry.

Myers said last year’s playoff run was a catalyst. The Tigers return four key players from that team. Point guard Hannah Barrow (12.3) leads a balanced scoring effort that includes Kelsie Day (9.4), Laila Hampton (9.2) and defensive stopped Sophie Moreaux (6.5).
