“Created to Rule” is this year’s theme for The Dunham School’s annual Spiritual Emphasis Week, to be held January 25 - 29, 2010. The theme is adapted from Genesis 1:26: "Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." (NIV)
Monday thru Thursday, Middle School assemblies will be held from 9:30 to 10:10 AM immediately followed by Upper School assemblies from 10:15 to 11:00 AM. The Lower School assembly will be Wednesday from 8 – 9 AM.
Our Speakers:
Dr. Tommy Mitchell, of Answers in Genesis (answersingenesis.org), will introduce our theme to our Middle and Upper School students during the assemblies Monday and Tuesday. He will present evidence for the Biblical account of Creation (Monday: Created by God) and the exquisite order of creation (Tuesday: Order not Disorder).
Mr. Kirt Bennett, founder and former Executive Director of the Young Leaders Academy in Baton Rouge, will provide the application element of our Theme for our Middle and Upper School students during the Wednesday and Thursday assemblies. Mr. Bennet will present the Biblical moral teachings given to man to rule (Wednesday: Tools to Rule) and the teachings of Christ that to rule is to serve (Thursday: Ruling is Service)
Pastor Whitney Alexander, First Presbyterian Church in Baton Rouge, will present to the Lower School students the Biblical teachings that show man has a God given purpose on earth (Wednesday: Created to Serve).
During this year’s Spiritual Emphasis Week, we hope to infuse into the students the understanding that there is evidence that man is the result of a Creator God who created us for a purpose. While the culture continues to try and pull them toward belief in a world without God and without purpose, our prayer is that they will be held fast by the anchor of Christ, standing firm in the faith and knowledge of Him who created all things.
