Accommodation plans are designed to provide what a student needs to meet with academic success. The depth and breadth of accommodations are adjusted as needed.
Academic coaching provides organizational and study skills assistance and monitors a child’s class performance, especially on homework and tests.
Academic tutoring is subject area specific and designed to assist a student in learning the content and skills necessary to achieve at satisfactory levels in a specific class.
Compensation Level I is for those students who benefit from a very small class, an intense therapy schedule and specialized learning/behavioral strategies. The age group varies to meet the need. Currently there are two Level 1 classes - one for students ages 6-8 and one for students 9-12. Learn more about Compensation Classes.
Compensation Level 2 is for learning disabled students who struggle to succeed in a traditional classroom. Currently these students are of middle school age. Where possible and appropriate, these students are included in traditional classes for part of the regular school day. Learn more about Compensation classes.
Gifted students who require accelerated programs within a prescribed subject area may elect individual courses to advance their learning.
Individual courses are those which replace a student’s traditional course, provide an individualized learning environment that follows the traditional curriculum, and have no more than 5 students.
Language therapy remediates deficits in a child’s language development, addresses language-based early literacy skills, or builds language skills for social pragmatics.
Occupational therapy is offered for students with weak grapho-motor skills, sensory integration issues, or other related concerns.
Out of class testing is provided for students as recommended by their psycho-educational evaluation or on a trial basis when there are concerns related to concentration, test anxiety, or diminished confidence in performance ability. Oral testing and scribing are also available options. Extended time testing may be a part of this service.
Non-standard administration of achievement tests is offered to those students who would normally take class tests in the MAC. This, too, may include extended time.
Study groups may be offered on a short-term basis to small groups of students who need both extra instruction in content and class related skill building such as notetaking.
Speech and language therapists and occupational therapists are provided by Abilities. Additionally, psycho-educational evaluations are provided by Dr. Alicia Pellegrin and the psychometricians at APS, Assessment and Psychological Services. Both are examples of collaborative partnerships with established community professionals.
