The visual arts program allows art students to build a strong foundation in the elements of art and the principles of design. Students produce their own art while obtaining a knowledge of art history. Each class approaches students' needs on different levels. The studio art classes are Art 1, Art 2, Art 3, Art 4 and AP Studio Art. Through class projects, students are exposed to color theory, basic drawing skills, perspective drawing, figure drawing, and still life painting. Two-dimensional and three-dimensional art is explored while individual creative expression is encouraged. Students also are encouraged to attend museums and art exhibits. A school wide art exhibit of the students' work will takes place at the end of every year.
Fine Arts Survey is a year long class that introduces students to an appreciation of the arts, exploring visual arts, music, drama, and dance. The class is team taught by the upper school choral music and a visual arts teacher. Outside assignments to museums, galleries, concerts and theatrical productions are a requirement.
